Privacy
No cookies, no trackers, no accounts — and one small exception we would rather tell you about than hide.
The short version
This site is a set of static pages about the festivals of the Chinese year. It sets no cookies, runs no trackers, and has no accounts, no forms and no comment sections. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to hand over.
There is one thing we want to be precise about, because most sites are not: our web server keeps ordinary access logs. They are used for security, and for counting how many people read each guide. They are described in full below.
What this site does not do
- No cookies. Not for preferences, not for statistics, not for anything. Nothing is stored on your device by us.
- No third-party scripts. No Google Analytics, no advertising code, no social media buttons, no tracking pixels.
- No external resources. The fonts, styles, scripts and illustrations are all served from this domain. To display a page, your browser does not have to contact any other company. The fonts are the ones already on your device, so no font files are downloaded at all.
- No personal information collected. There is no login, no newsletter, no contact form and no comment section, so there is nowhere for personal details to be entered.
- No profiling, no selling, no ad targeting. We do not build a picture of you, and we do not pass anything about you to advertisers or data brokers.
The one thing we do log
Our server records a standard access log entry for each request. An entry contains:
- the IP address the request came from
- the browser and operating system string your browser sends (the "User-Agent")
- the page requested, and the date and time
- the referring page, if your browser sent one
We use these logs for two purposes, and no others:
- Security and troubleshooting. Spotting attacks, automated abuse and broken pages, and putting them right.
- Counting readers. Additive counts of how many people read each festival guide. We use those totals to decide the order the guides appear in the sidebar. This is counting, not profiling: we look at totals for a page, never at what one visitor did.
The logs stay on our own server. We do not share them with third parties, we do not use them to advertise to you, and we do not combine them with any other data. We do not try to identify individual visitors from them.
An IP address can count as personal data in some jurisdictions. That is exactly why we are telling you it is recorded, rather than leaving you to assume it is not.
Why we are telling you this
Many sites greet you with a cookie banner and then track you anyway. We would rather be plain about it: we do not track you, and the small amount of logging we do is what you have just read. If that ever changes — if we ever add something that collects data — this page will say so, and the date at the bottom will change.
Cookies
There are none. You can confirm this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, go to the "Storage" or "Application" panel, and look for cookies set by this site. The list will be empty. You can also set your browser to block all cookies; every page here will still work exactly as it does now.
Do Not Track and similar settings
We do not need a "Do Not Track" signal to behave well, because there is nothing to opt out of. If your browser blocks cookies, scripts or third-party requests, this site will not notice and will not mind.
Changes to this notice
If this notice changes, we will update this page and the date at the bottom. There is no version of this site that quietly collects more than what is described here.
